Rights & Democracy
Numerous international treaties and institutions have been established to protect human rights. However, for millions globally, these protections still seem like a distant promise. True realization of human rights is unattainable without democracy.
Yet, even democratic systems are vulnerable to the erosion of established human rights. Currently, illiberal politicians and assertive authoritarian regimes are challenging both democracy and human rights.
They are devising new methods of repression that affect both online and offline environments. Authoritarian influence extends beyond their own borders, affecting nations worldwide.
At Same Justice, we are dedicated to understanding and addressing these threats to democracy, including political participation, physical integrity, and academic freedom. We strive to counter these challenges through our research and advocacy.
Our History
We conduct research as a means of analysis to understand and explain global affairs with humanitarian and international rights aspirations. To this end, we work in partnership with international bodies and NGOs as well as leading research institutions including national and international courts. We therefore seek to present our results in a clear and accessible manner.
Same Justice managers aim to build and develop a unique and sustainable institution through their areas of interest and expertise. In order to dedicate time to thematic work on global justice, members of the Same Justice leadership team share oversight responsibility with a growing global network of individuals and organizations.
